Verification of conformity procedure
As a monitoring representative of the Güteschutz Beton NRW (notified body, identification no. 0793) notified body, we perform monitoring tasks in the course of certification of conformity of factory production control at manufacturers of:
• Aggregates for use in concrete, asphalt, traffic and hydro engineering(contact: Mr. Kohlmann, Mr. Demond)
• Precast concrete elements for structural engineering(contact: Mr. Kohlmann)
• Mortars(contact person: Mr. Kohlmann)
The required competences of the monitoring officers are proven in the course of the DAkkS accreditation of the notified body.

State building code –
Proof of conformity procedure
Proof of conformity procedure
In accordance with § 25 Para. 1 of the Building Code for the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (BauO NRW), the competence of the testing, inspection and certification body(testing, inspection and certification body code number NRW05), including tests in the course of building inspectorate approvals as well as monitoring and certification in the course of the proof of conformity procedure according to Building Rules List Part A or MVV TB Section C.2 and Appendix ABUG, recognised by the German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt) as well as for external monitoring of the production and placement of concrete of higher strength classes.
Major fields of activity in the field of monitoring and certification are:
• Shotcrete
• Concrete by properties, concrete by composition
• Load-bearing precast elements made of concrete, reinforced concrete or prestressed concrete which do not comply with the harmonised
product standards
• Concrete as a waterproofing agent for catchment areas and surfaces
• External monitoring of the placing of concrete of monitoring classes 2 and 3

Traffic construction – external monitoring
For the area of external monitoring of aggregates and layers without binders as well as building material mixtures and soil material for earthworks, the FEhS Institute possesses a nationwide private-law recognition of the required competences by the Ministry of Transport of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia in cooperation with the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt)on the basis of the RAP Stra. The recognition is also the basis for conducting tests on aggregates in the field of hydro engineering and railroad engineering.
The tests can be supplemented in the course of voluntary external monitoring of the usability of construction products in accordance with harmonised European standards, e.g. by providing evidence of water management characteristics, consolidation tendency, space stability or water permeability.
Types of aggregate testing:
• Incoming material tests
• Control tests
• Arbitration investigations
Test type layers without binders, mixtures of building materials:
• Suitability tests
• External monitoring tests
• Control tests
• Arbitration investigations

Monitoring of construction sites
and construction products
and construction products
In addition to FEhS Institute laboratoriy accreditation, the competence of the concrete testing laboratory for self-monitoring of construction sites of monitoring class 2 and 3 (ÜK2) is recognised by the Verband der Materialprüfanstalten e. V. (VMPA) as a concrete testing laboratory and listed in their directory.
Both the VMPA recognised body and the RAP Stra recognised body (see below) perform voluntary external monitoring to demonstrate the usability of harmonised construction products according to national application rules in Germany.
Main areas of activity:
• Self-monitoring of ÜK2 and ÜK3 construction sites(contact: Mr. Bussmann, Mr. Knapp)
• Quality control of concrete placement for the client(contact persons: Mr. Bussmann, Mr. Knapp)
• Voluntary external monitoring of the usability of aggregates according to DAfStb alkali guideline(contact: Mr. Kohlmann, Mr. Gronen)
• Voluntary external monitoring of the environmentally compatible usability of aggregates in accordance with harmonised European standards
in transport and hydro engineering(contact: Ms. Sokol, Mr. Lohmann)

Environment – water management features
In addition to nationwide recognition under private law according to RAP Stra, the FEhS-Institute possesses recognition of the “Inspection bodies for road construction (Prüfstellen für den Straßenbau)” by the Ministry of Transport of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia as a testing laboratory for water management characteristics to confirm the competence to perform external monitoring and investigations in the mentioned fields. In doing so, the FEhS Institute works with numerous standardised and recognised laboratory elution procedures. In addition, it is able to carry out tests on a semi-technical and technical scale. The necessary know-how is also available for monitoring soil seepage or interstitial water.
Other focal points include participation in national and international tests, the development of test methods, and collaboration on standards and other regulations.

Hydro engineering – Railway engineering
In the field of hydro engineering, the FEhS Institute regularly performs tests and monitoring in accordance with the applicable regulations. The same applies to the voluntary monitoring of track ballast or construction material mixtures for formation protection layers in the railroad sector. The basis for the acceptance of the results is the recognition according to RAP Stra as well as the DAkkS accreditation of FEhS Institute laboratories.
Further focal points are the testing of new construction materials in hydro engineering within the framework of laboratory and practical trials. There is close cooperation with the Federal Institute of Hydrology (BfG), the Federal Waterways Engineering and Research Institute (BAW) and the Federal Ministry of Transport (BMDV).
