CHANGE MEANS FUTURE
The transformation of the steel industry towards decarbonised production processes is leading to a massive conversion and new construction of integrated steelworks – and to completely different slags. We are rising to this challenge!
In numerous projects since 2013, we have been researching how the new slags can be used as high-quality secondary raw materials in cement and concrete, in road construction, as fertilisers and in other applications. And how granulated blast furnace slag 2.0, aggregates & co. can also make an important contribution to resource conservation, the circular economy and environmental and climate protection in the future.
In order to continue writing the slag success story, however, we need more than just practice-orientated research. The European and national framework conditions must also be adapted to developments and optimised in the interests of a sustainable economy. We have formulated key demands for this.

In 2024, 96% of the total of 11.8 million tonnes of ferrous slags generated in Germany could be used in construction materials, in transport engineering, and in agriculture.
